Bob Valvano joined ESPN in December 1998 as an ESPN Radio host.
Valvano coached basketball for 19 seasons before entering broadcasting full time. He successfully rebuilt four different college programs, setting all-time records for wins in a season at three different colleges. At Kutztown University his team was 16-12 during the 1983-84 season. at Catholic University his team was 20-6 (1991-92) and at St. Mary's College his team was 14-12 (1993-94 ).
Valvano-coached teams set more than 15 college records and six NCAA records. The NCAA records were: three-point field goals made in a season, three-point field goals attempted in a season, three point field goals made in one game (27), three point field goals attempted in one game (63), three point field goals made, two teams combined (32), and most players making a three point field goal in one game (11).
Valvano's last season on the sidelines saw him guide Bellarmine College to its 10th winningest season, and a No. 25 powerrating in Division II.
Prior to joining ESPN, Valvano served as analyst for University of Louisville basketball telecasts and sideline reporter for television coverage of University of Louisville football games.
Valvano lettered in soccer, basketball and golf at Virginia Wesleyan College, named All-Conference 1st team,and soccer MVP in 1978. He was a cum laude graduate of Wesleyan where he majored in Communications. The younger brother of the late Jim Valvano, Bob serves on the Board of Directors of both the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and Kosair Childrens Hospital Foundation.
